Special Events

There are heaps of club rides and one day rides throughout Australia.  We have selected some of the most popular rides to list as Special Events.  If your travels to Australia include the one of these special events, pack your knicks and helmet, we'll help you organise a hire bike for a fun day of cycling.

"The Gong Ride" - Sydney to Wollongong.  This ride is on a Sunday in November.  The route from Sydney to Wollongong has two start points, Moore Park in Sydney (92 km ride) or Engadine (58 km ride) with a finish at the beach in Wollongong.  Join about 10,000 cyclists for this spectacular event.  If you are a racer, the first group to start ride against the clock.  Then the mere mortals start for a fun day.  The motorway is coned off closing a lane in for cyclists to exit Sydney.  Keep cycling South for morning tea at Loftus Oval and Lunch at Red Cedar flats in the Royal National Park.  Climb along the coast and finish with a spectacular decent to the beach at Wollongong.

This ride is sponsored by MS New South Wales.  For details visit their web site http://www.msnsw.org.au   You want the "events & shopping"  button, followed by "outdoor events"

Join 6000 plus riders cycling clockwise and anticlockwise around Port Phillip Bay.  It's long, it's tough, it's demanding ... but it's one Sunday in October you'll never forget:  Bike Victoria's signature challenge ride, The Around The Bay In A Day for the Smith Family.

Starting at Port Melbourne, this 210 km ride is around Port Phillip Bay.  There are no short cuts, just you, your bike and the road.  The ride is fully supported with marshals stationed at 15-20 km intervals and are linked by radio to ensure a safe and fun ride.

This ride is sponsored by Bicycle Victoria.  For details visit their web site http://www.bv.com.au

Note:  In addition to the sag support, there is train service between Geelong on the west side of the bay,  and Frankston on the east side of the bay to Melbourne.
